Take Some “ME” Time
I am the classic caregiver, the empath, the person who puts others before myself. I often focus on others so much, that I overlook myself until I am not healthy. I can become depressed, sleep all day or become sick. It has taken a long time for me to truly understand what my body needs and what I can handle, or when it’s time to focus on myself.
The concept of “ME” time is something I have been working on for awhile. Not only do I focus on myself, but I also do a Mental Evaluation, “ME” time. I take inventory of my current mental state. I always go through a series of questions:
Am I overwhelmed? If so, why? Can I take anything off of my plate?
What have I done for myself in the last couple days, or weeks?
What can I do to maintain or increase my healthy mindset?
What can I do today to bring me joy, that does not serve someone else?
How do I truly feel right now, in this moment?
What do I need?
Other days could have other questions, but this forces me to really take some time to focus on my Mental Evaluation. Not only is it focused on my brain, but it is focused on ME, and only me. Question 4 is a really great one for me also. Usually what brings me joy is doing something for someone else, but that may take too much energy from me, so by focusing on my own personal joy that doesn’t serve someone else is critical for me. I have to focus on things that bring me joy, that is just for me. It is a really empowering and fulfilling thing.
So let’s all take a moment and focus on our own Mental Evaluation “ME” time. It could be stopping and taking in the surrounding area, meditating, or anything that works for you. As women, and human beings, let’s take extra care with what we really need. Listen to our bodies and soul. Take your “ME” time. Women supporting women. I am here for you.
